Bring your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Vision API key, pay a single one-time fee to unlock bulk processing and Yoast keyword-awareness, and you’re done. No recurring charges, no monthly image credits to track. **Free features:** * Single-image AI alt text generation on upload * Manual “Generate” button in the Media Library * Review-before-save — you always get final say before anything is written **Pro features ($27 one-time):** * Bulk-generate alt text for your entire media library * Yoast SEO focus-keyword awareness for sharper, contextual alt text * Priority compatibility updates #### Why Lumatag and not a subscription tool? Most AI alt text plugins run on managed credits or monthly billing. Lumatag is sold once, not rented — bring your own API key, pay a single upgrade fee for Pro features, and there’s nothing recurring to cancel later. ### External services This plugin can connect to third-party AI providers to analyze uploaded images and generate descriptive alt text. Depending on which provider you configure in Settings, the plugin sends the image (base64-encoded) and a text prompt to that provider’s API to generate a caption. No image data is sent unless you have configured an API key for that provider and triggered alt text generation — either by uploading an image with “Auto-generate on Upload” turned on, by clicking “Generate Alt Text with AI” on an existing image, or (Pro) by running Bulk Alt Text. None of these calls happen on a schedule or in the background without one of those user actions; there is no cron-based or unattended generation. Bulk Alt Text (Pro) can generate for many images in one run, sending each selected image to the configured provider in small batches (up to 5 at a time) as the run progresses, rather than as a single combined request. **OpenAI (Chat Completions API)** Used to analyze images and generate alt text when OpenAI is selected as the provider. Upload an image or open an existing one in the Media Library to generate alt text ## FAQ ### Do I need my own API key? Yes. Lumatag connects to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Vision) using an API key you supply. This keeps Lumatag free to run with no usage caps tied to our costs. ### Is the alt text saved automatically? No. Generated alt text is shown for review before it’s saved, so you always have final say before anything is written to your media library. ### What’s the difference between Free and Pro? Free covers single-image generation, on upload or on demand. Pro adds bulk processing across your whole media library and Yoast focus-keyword awareness for more contextually relevant results — for a single one-time payment, not a subscription. ### Does this work without Yoast SEO installed? Yes.
