## Description

**Neuroon Search is a SaaS connector plugin for WooCommerce.** It enhances your
store’s product search by sending product data to the Neuroon semantic-search service
and rendering the results back on your site via a drop-in widget. It works similarly
to other established WooCommerce search add-ons (e.g. Algolia for WooCommerce, Doofinder,
Klevu, Searchanise).

The widget has two modes, and you choose which ones to enable: a **fast search**
that shows instant results with filters as the shopper types, and a **conversational
sales assistant** that understands what the shopper is looking for, recommends and
compares products, assembles kits, answers questions about the catalogue and can
add products to the WooCommerce cart when the shopper asks for it. The assistant
always identifies itself as an AI system, and every cart change either follows an
explicit request from the shopper or is offered as a proposal they confirm with
one tap.

#### What this plugin is

 * A **client** for the Neuroon hosted search service.
 * A connector that **synchronises your WooCommerce product catalog** with Neuroon’s
index so semantic search can return relevant products.
 * A **drop-in search widget** that you embed on your store via shortcode, Gutenberg
block, classic widget, Elementor widget, menu item, or seamless replacement of
   the WooCommerce native search.

#### What this plugin is NOT

 * It is **NOT a storefront / marketplace / installer plugin**. It does **NOT**
install plugins or themes from anywhere — neither from WordPress.org nor from
   any third-party source.
 * It does **NOT** download executable code from external locations at runtime.
The only external script it loads is the public search widget (`widget.js`) from
Neuroon’s CDN (`cdn.neuroon.ai`), and that load is protected with Subresource
Integrity (SRI hash pinned in the plugin’s PHP source). This is the same pattern
used by Algolia for WooCommerce, Doofinder, Klevu Smart Search, Jetpack and many
other approved plugins on this directory.
 * It does **NOT** modify, replace or shadow any WordPress core or WooCommerce functionality
beyond rendering the search widget where you ask it to.

**This plugin requires a paid [Neuroon](https://neuroon.ai/buscador-para/woocommerce)
subscription to function.** Without an active subscription and API Key, the connector
cannot send products to the service nor render search results. The plugin itself,
including all its PHP source, is free and GPL-licensed.

#### Key Features

 * **Semantic Search Widget** – Drop-in search bar that replaces default WooCommerce
   search with AI-powered results
 * **Conversational Sales Assistant** – AI chat mode that recommends, compares and
bundles products, answers catalogue questions and adds to the cart on request,
with the cart drawer, free-shipping progress and cross-sell inside the widget
 * **Automatic Product Sync** – Keeps your product catalog indexed and up to date
   with Neuroon’s search engine
 * **Drift Detection** – Automatically detects product changes (price, stock, name)
   and re-syncs only what changed
 * **Batch Sync with Progress Tracking** – Sync hundreds or thousands of products
   with real-time progress updates
 * **Auto-Retry Failed Products** – Automatically retries products that failed to
   sync due to temporary errors
 * **Rate Limiting** – Built-in API rate limit handling to prevent throttling
 * **Gutenberg Block & Shortcode** – Add the search widget via Gutenberg block,
   shortcode, or classic widget
 * **Elementor Integration** – Native Elementor widget for drag-and-drop placement
 * **WooCommerce HPOS Compatible** – Fully compatible with High-Performance Order
   Storage
 * **Conversion Tracking** – Track search-to-purchase conversions from your Neuroon
   dashboard
 * **Secure Token Authentication** – Short-lived tokens for widget-to-API communication,
no API key exposed to the browser

#### How It Works

 1. Install and activate the plugin
 2. Open the **Neuroon Search** menu in your WordPress admin (the setup wizard opens
    on first run)
 3. Enter your Neuroon API Key (found in your [Neuroon dashboard](https://neuroon.ai))
 4. Click “Verify Key” to verify your domain and connect the store
 5. Sync your WooCommerce products to Neuroon
 6. Add the search widget to your site via Gutenberg block, shortcode, or widget area
 7. Customers now search with natural language

#### Requirements

 * WordPress 5.8 or higher
 * WooCommerce 6.0 or higher
 * PHP 7.4 or higher
 * **A paid Neuroon subscription** ([neuroon.ai](https://neuroon.ai))
 * Your shop’s API Key (found in your Neuroon dashboard)

### Building from Source

This plugin is open source under GPLv2 (or later). All source code is bundled inside
the ZIP.

#### Plugin source

All PHP code lives in `includes/` and `neuroon-verification.php`. No build step
is required.

#### Gutenberg block source

The Gutenberg search block is built with @wordpress/scripts. Source + build output
ship together inside the ZIP:

 * Source: `includes/widget/gutenberg/src/` (JSX / JavaScript, readable)
 * Build output: `includes/widget/gutenberg/build/`
 * Build command: `cd includes/widget/gutenberg && npm install && npm run build`

#### Search widget (CDN)

The search widget JavaScript loads from `cdn.neuroon.ai` on the pages that render
the widget. It is a proprietary Neuroon SaaS service (similar to Stripe.js, Google
Analytics or Mailchimp) and is **not** bundled in the plugin. A Subresource Integrity(
SRI) hash protects against tampering. See the “External Services” section below.

#### Third-party libraries

Bundled libraries are listed with versions and upstream URLs in `assets/vendor/LICENSES.
md`.

### External Services

This plugin connects to two Neuroon services. **A paid Neuroon subscription is required
for the plugin to function.**

#### 1. Neuroon API (https://api.neuroon.ai)

Provides AI-powered semantic search, product indexing, and conversion tracking.

**Data Transmitted:**

 * **Domain URL** – Your website domain for verification
 * **Product Data** – Name, price, main image, product URL, main category, stock,
rating and review count, plus the description on the first send (fields configurable
in the Settings tab) for search indexing
 * **API Key** – Your shop’s API key for authentication
 * **Search Queries** – Customer search queries to generate search results (when
   the search widget is active)
 * **Chat Messages** – What the shopper writes to the sales assistant, the products
they attach to a message and the assistant’s replies, to generate the answers(
only when the assistant mode is enabled)
 * **Cart Contents** – The current cart lines (products, quantities, prices) and
the shipping destination country, sent while the assistant is helping with the
cart so it can recommend and act on them
 * **Conversion Events** – Search-to-purchase mappings (only when conversion tracking
   consent is enabled)

**When Data is Transmitted:**

 * During domain verification (when you click “Verify Key” or “Connect to Neuroon”)
 * During product synchronization (initial sync and ongoing change detection)
 * When customers search on your store (search queries are sent in real time)
 * When customers talk to the sales assistant (each message, in real time, together
with the cart contents when the conversation involves the cart)
 * When orders are placed (conversion events, only if conversion tracking is enabled)

#### 2. Neuroon Widget CDN (https://cdn.neuroon.ai)

The search widget JavaScript is loaded from Neuroon’s CDN on the pages of your store
that render the search widget. This pattern is similar to how Stripe.js, Google
Analytics, or Mailchimp load their scripts from their respective CDNs.

 * **URL pattern:** https://cdn.neuroon.ai/widget@VERSION/widget.js
 * **When loaded:** Only on pages that render the search widget
 * **Integrity:** Subresource Integrity (SRI) hash verification ensures the script
   cannot be tampered with
 * **Bundle policy:** The widget is a proprietary service of Neuroon and is not
bundled with this plugin. If the CDN is temporarily unavailable, the search widget
shows an inline error message and the rest of the plugin (admin, sync) continues
   to work normally.

#### Data Processing

All data is transmitted securely via HTTPS. Product data is processed to generate
search embeddings using AI models. Chat messages are processed by Neuroon with large
language models, including third-party AI providers acting on Neuroon’s behalf as
described in the Privacy Policy, and conversations are stored with the same identifiers
as search queries. Search queries are processed in real time and are also stored
by Neuroon, linked to your shop, to an anonymous visitor identifier and to the visitor’s
IP address and browser user agent, so that the plugin and the Neuroon dashboard
can show search analytics, the activity log and search-to-purchase attribution;
they are kept for as long as your Neuroon shop account exists. The site administrator
must explicitly authorize data processing during plugin activation, and this consent
is recorded with timestamp. Conversion tracking is a separate optional consent and
disabled by default. For complete details about how your data is handled, please
review the [Neuroon Privacy Policy](https://neuroon.ai/privacy).

## FAQ

### Is this a storefront / installer / marketplace plugin?

No. Neuroon Search does not install, download, or activate any other plugins or
themes. It is purely a connector between your WooCommerce catalog and the Neuroon
hosted semantic-search service. The only external resource it loads is the public
search widget JavaScript from `cdn.neuroon.ai`, pinned with Subresource Integrity(
SRI). This is the same architectural pattern used by Algolia for WooCommerce, Doofinder,
Klevu Smart Search, Searchanise and other approved WooCommerce search plugins on
this directory.

### Do I need a paid subscription?

Yes. Neuroon Search requires an active Neuroon subscription. The plugin connects
your WooCommerce store to Neuroon’s AI search engine, which is a paid service. Visit
[neuroon.ai](https://neuroon.ai) to see available plans.

### Where do I find my API Key?

Log in to your Neuroon dashboard at [neuroon.ai](https://neuroon.ai), navigate to
your shop settings, and you will find your API Key there.

### What data is sent to Neuroon?

Product information is sent during synchronization: name, price, main image, product
URL, main category, stock, rating and review count, plus the description the first
time a product is sent. Which of these fields are shared is configurable in the
Settings tab (“Fields to send”). When customers search, their search queries are
sent to generate results. See the External Services section below for full details.

### What if my domain does not match?

The Neuroon API compares your WordPress site URL with the domain registered in your
Neuroon shop, and the plugin shows an error if they differ. Register the same domain
in your Neuroon dashboard (or move the shop to the new domain there) and verify
again.

### Can I use this on multiple sites?

Each Neuroon shop has its own API Key. If you have multiple sites, you need a separate
Neuroon subscription and API Key for each.

### How does product sync work?

The plugin syncs your WooCommerce products to Neuroon in batches. After the initial
sync, it automatically detects changes (price updates, stock changes, new products)
and syncs only what changed, keeping your search index up to date.

### Is the search widget customizable?

Yes. You can customize colors, layout, and placement. The widget is available as
a Gutenberg block, a shortcode `[neuroon_search]`, a classic WordPress widget, and
an Elementor widget.

### Is my API Key secure?

Yes. The API Key is stored encrypted in your WordPress database. The search widget
uses short-lived tokens for browser-to-API communication, so the API Key is never
exposed to visitors.

### Does the plugin track visitors?

Only if you opt in. During plugin activation, two consents are presented: (1) data
processing (required, authorizes sending product data and search queries to Neuroon)
and (2) conversion tracking (optional, default off). Conversion tracking sets a `
neuroon_clicks` cookie that maps clicked products to search queries so you can see
search-to-purchase metrics in your dashboard. To survive payment-gateway redirects
and browser cookie limits, the same clicked-product map is also snapshotted into
the WooCommerce session (stored server-side in your own database, expiring automatically
with the session, typically 48 hours) and stored temporarily as order meta: it is
deleted as soon as the conversion is attributed, and any leftover copy is automatically
pruned after 14 days. No additional personal data is collected by these redundant
copies — they hold the same product-to-search mapping as the cookie. You can enable
or disable conversion tracking anytime in Neuroon Search > Settings > Privacy &
Tracking.

### How is data processing consent handled?

When you activate the plugin with your API Key, you must explicitly authorize data
processing. Both consents are recorded with a UTC timestamp and shown in Neuroon
Search > Settings > Privacy & Tracking. You can withdraw data processing consent
at any time by clicking “Disconnect” in Settings, which deletes the API Key and
stops all data transmission.

### Can the assistant change my customers’ carts?

Only when the shopper asks for it. The assistant adds, updates or removes cart lines
through the plugin’s own WooCommerce cart endpoints, in the shopper’s session, and
only after an explicit request or a proposal the shopper confirms. It never places
orders or takes payments; checkout stays in WooCommerce. You can switch the assistant
mode off in Neuroon Search > Widget > Features and keep only the fast search.

### Where is the search widget loaded from?

The widget JavaScript is loaded from the Neuroon CDN (`cdn.neuroon.ai`) on the pages
that render the widget, similar to how Stripe.js, Google Analytics, or Mailchimp
load from their respective CDNs. The plugin does not bundle a local copy. A Subresource
Integrity (SRI) hash verifies the script has not been tampered with. See the External
Services section below.

## Changelog

#### 0.9.58

 * Readme corrections, no code changes: the description now covers the conversational
sales assistant (recommendations, comparisons, kits, add-to-cart on request),
External Services lists exactly which product fields, chat messages and cart
contents are sent and states that queries and conversations are stored with the
visitor identifier, IP address and user agent, and menu paths and button names
   match the plugin.

#### 0.9.57

 * The connection test on the Widget tab shows its OK/Error status again: the icon
was rendered with a broken class attribute and never drawn, so the Status column
stayed blank; each status now also carries a text alternative for screen readers.
 * Declares compatibility with WooCommerce 11.1, the version the E2E suite now pins,
guarded by a new release gate.
 * The widget cart receives the subtotal the way WooCommerce displays it (taxes
included when the store shows prices that way), so it no longer reads below the
product price; the free-shipping progress uses the same figure.
 * Widget 0.9.31: when the store refuses an add (a product with options to choose),
the shopper now sees the reason and a link to the product page instead of nothing,
and the assistant’s “Done” card names the item that actually entered the cart.

#### 0.9.56

 * A product on sale whose sync row was retired from the index is queued again by
the change detection, counted in the Pending card and listed under the Pending
filter; before, it was invisible everywhere and never sent.
 * The status page names the rows retired from the index instead of lumping them
as “Other”, and the automatic sending interval is translated.

#### 0.9.55

 * Drift detection compares UTC with UTC, so stores outside UTC stop re-sending
or missing recent edits; widget 0.9.30.
 * Automatic sending heals itself (pauses after 10 failed runs, keeps probing, resumes
on its own), network errors and unconfirmed batches return to the queue instead
of burning retries, and the queue is fair: never-synced products first, parents
   next to their variations.
 * Counters agree everywhere; the products table sorts by last sent, name or status
and lists unpublished products awaiting removal; a failed removal shows as “Removal
failed” and republishing sends the product again.
 * A PHP fatal mid-run releases the lock; stores connected before explicit consent
can record it with one click; other plugins’ notices stay off Neuroon screens.

#### 0.9.53 – 0.9.54

 * A transient API 401/403/404 no longer unverifies the store; removed products
come back when republished, variations included; large catalogues are checked
in full; the attribution cookie respects consent; “In store” counters count what
a shopper can actually buy. Full detail in CHANGELOG.md.

#### 0.9.39 – 0.9.52

 * Conversion-tracking overhaul (redirect gateways, Safari cookie limits, per-order
locks, retries, sibling-variation matching), accessibility and index cleanup
fixes, admin localization in nine languages, Modal display mode, Search mode
and Launcher controls, setup wizard and shortcode fixes, fail-closed sync accounting
with stuck-sync recovery. Full detail in CHANGELOG.md.

#### 0.9.24 – 0.9.38

 * WordPress.org review hardening across twelve releases: full output escaping with
wp_kses/esc_* (no suppressions), nonce+capability ordering on all AJAX, i18n
translators comments, WPCS/PHPCompat/Plugin-Check gates on the packaged ZIP,
vendor lib updates (Chart.js 4.5.1, DataTables removed), widget bumps to v0.9.16.
   Full detail in CHANGELOG.md.

#### 0.9.0 – 0.9.23

 * CDN widget with SRI + explicit consent (0.9.0), conversion idempotency and cross-
origin attribution, rate-limit handler with backoff, ghost orphan detector, unpublish-
removes-from-index fix, Activity Log redesign, analytics served from backend.
   Full detail in CHANGELOG.md.

#### 0.8.4 and earlier

 * See CHANGELOG.md in the plugin folder for the full history (0.1.0 initial release
through 0.8.4: widget embedding methods and themes, setup wizard, search analytics,
WCAG 2.1 AA, sync stability, rate limiting, drift detection, conversion tracking).
